the farm

Once upon a time Gino and Rina Tassi lived and worked on the land at Podere La Casellina. Sixty years later, in 1996, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, knocking down a wall to make a room big enough for the celebrations.
But then Gino died and his grandson, Michelangelo, desperate to keep the place going, persuaded the family to let him try his hand at living off the land in the time-honoured way, while taking in guests.
This brave endeavour is a testimonial to the life his grandparents, and others like them, had lived. Anyone wishing to see the raw and honest side of Tuscan life, and learn something of its history, should come here; tourists more comfortable with the face-lifted Tuscany of holiday brochures need not apply.
Little has changed, either inside or out, and there are few concessions to modernity. To stay here is to experience first-hand the changing pattern of the seasons.
Learn to prune vines, help plant bulbs, pick olives, gather mushrooms - make yourself useful. Michelangelo swears by a breakfast of raw egg yolks and Vin Santo to keep your strength up!

structures

The farm has been in the family for four generations, and the hospitality reflects the traditional easy warmth of the local contadini or countryfolk.
The owners are eager to satisfy any requests, appreciating that people come to this part of the world to enjoy the easy pace of life and the beauty of the surroundings

rooms

The stables and hayloft have been carefully restored and converted into three simple, light bedrooms with bathrooms and excellent views

services

restaurant

Breakfast is provided by the family, who live in the old stone-built farmhouse.
Delicious, home-cooked evening meals, prepared by the owner's mother from the La Casellina's produce, are also served in the farmhouse dining-room.

rates

Prices for a short stay (minimum 2 days) are 34euros  per day per person for bed and breakfast and 55euros per day for half board.
This is a general indication of our prices: they can be adjusted according to lenght of stay and time of the year, and availability, of course. We tend to apply same prices all year round, except during the very high season which is Easter, New Year's Eve and Bank Holidays.

surrondings

Here you can picnic beneath the olive trees, gather chestnuts and wild mushrooms in the woods or simply sit back and enjoy the view of Monti del Chianti and Pratomagno.
There are brilliant walks to do, on both sides of the valley, starting directly from home.Guests are mostly welcome to help out with the farm activitiesat any time of the year, too.

where we are

The farm is a short drive from Florence, the most important of Tuscany's Cities of Art, and is convenient for the vineyards of Chianti and the other major cities of central Tuscany.
Directions: Leave the A1 at Incisa and take the Figline road.
Just before Figline, right to Brollo and Poggio alla Croce.
